Planned Giving
Leave a legacy. Plan your gift today.
A planned gift is a future contribution that you can offer to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend to ensure your commitment to this organization lives on even after you pass. Planned gifts help to ensure the long-term sustainability of our organization in the Big Bend region.
Whether just starting out or well into retirement, anyone can make a planned gift. It is also important to note that most planned gifts require no upfront monetary contribution and can be as simple as designating our organization as a beneficiary on your 401(k). Those who make planned gifts to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend will be inducted into The Heritage Club and receive a lapel pin symbolizing their membership.
A planned gift could be:
WILL OR CODICIL BEQUEST: A bequest in your will can be used to leave an outright gift to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend or to establish a planned contribution.
To make a bequest to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend:
- Give some thought to your estate planning. Make a list of your assets and think about how they will be distributed upon your death
- Make an appointment with an attorney who specializes in estate planning
- Decide how much you wish to leave to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend
- Contact us to discuss how your legacy can benefit the programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend
- When you notify the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend of your bequest intention, we would be delighted to invite you to join The Heritage Club.
The following examples are meant to illustrate a variety of bequest techniques. In consultation with an attorney, this language can be adapted to your individual circumstances as part of an overall estate plan.
-
Specific Bequest is a donation of a particular dollar amount or a particular piece of property.
For example: I bequeath (dollar amount or description of property) to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. -
Residuary Bequest is a donation of all or part of the assets remaining in your estate after debts, expenses and specific bequests have been paid.
For example: I give, bequeath or devise (__% of) the rest, residue and remainder of the property, both real and personal, wherever situated, which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. -
Contingent Bequest is a donation which takes effect only if the primary beneficiary or beneficiaries of the bequest predeceases you.
For example: If neither my husband nor any descendants of mine survive me, then I give, bequeath and devise all the rest, residue and remainder of the property, both real and personal, wherever situated which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend.
CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY: It is possible to make a donation of cash or securities to establish a Charitable Gift Annuity to provide you or another individual with guaranteed, partially tax-free income for life.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST: A Charitable Remainder Trust provides an individual with income for either life or a term up to 20 years from the date the gift is made. When the trust terminates, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend receives the trust's principal.
CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST: A Charitable Lead Trust provides the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend with a steady income for a term of years or the life of an individual. When the trust terminates, the donor's designated heirs will receive the trust's appreciated principal.
LIFE INSURANCE: There are several ways to use life insurance to make a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. The Clubs can be named as owner and beneficiary to an existing policy or a new policy can be established.
RETIREMENT ASSETS: The combination of federal income, estate and excise taxes can seriously erode the value of retirement savings. Naming the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend as a beneficiary of these assets can save your estate and heirs both income tax and federal estate taxes.
APPRECIATED STOCK: These assets have a higher market value than their basis or tax purpose value. Such assets would, if sold by an individual or non-charitable organization at a price higher than their basis, potentially generate a taxable capital gains (either long-term or short-term depending on the holding period).
