JEFFERSON COUNTY STUDENT NAMED BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS 2008 YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Jefferson County High School student and Boys & Girls Club member, Eric Evans, was recently named the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend’s 2008 Youth of the Year. As the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive, the title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and local Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome.

Clubs Award Four-Year College Scholarships to Deserving Members

This summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend will award four-year tuition scholarships to qualifying state universities to three deserving Club members. Earlier this year, the organization leveraged a $68,000 donation from Intuition Systems to encourage a match from the Stanley Tate Scholarship Tuition for At-Risk Students (STARS) Program, ultimately garnering $150,000 in pre-paid scholarships for local Boys & Girls Club members...

Space Still Available for Summer Program at Chattahoochee Boys & Girls Club

The Chattahoochee Boys & Girls Club, one of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend’s 17 Club locations, still has space available for kids ages 5 to 18 to attend its full-day summer programs in June and July. The Club is offering two, three-week sessions this summer. The first session takes place June 9-27, and the second session will be offered July 7-25.

Boys & Girls Club Members Seek Donations at Car Wash

Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend will hold a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greg McCray Club (306 Laura Lee Ave.) to raise money for their newly formed drum line, The Stick Patrol. The group plans to perform at various local events, but they need support from the community before their dream can become a reality.

Free Meals for Kids through Summer Food Program

During June and July, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend will participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Summer Food Service Program, a federal initiative that helps children get the nutrition they need throughout the summer months when they are not in school. Eight Boys & Girls Club locations will provide free breakfast and lunch to neighborhood children even if they are not enrolled in the Boys & Girls Clubs summer programs.
